Beyond Bars: Discussing Alternatives to Traditional Incarceration
Mass Incarceration is a looming problem in this country. Current practices often prioritize punishment over rehabilitation, failing to equip individuals with the skills necessary for successful reintegration into society.
Many inmates suffer from mental health and addiction issues, which remain largely unaddressed. Additionally, overcrowding and inadequate conditions exacerbate the problem, leading to increased violence and decreased safety for both inmates and staff. In this
brief presentation, I demonstrate how reforming these systems can lead to more effective alternatives to incarceration, ultimately, a more just and equitable society. By shifting the focus from punitive measures to restorative practices, we can foster a more humane approach that benefits individuals and
communities alike.
